Tiny Production Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage at VERY Special Prices!

Tiny Production Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage at VERY Special Prices!

The small appellation of Hermitage is home to the most famous, most sought after, and most expensive wines in the entire Northern Rhône region.

Deeply powerful and extremely age worthy, the Syrah wines from this zone typically sell in the $100 to $500 range. Beautiful they are, cheap they are not!

Today, we bring you a classic Hermitage from Jean-François Jacouton, a small vintner we were introduced to during our most recent excursion to France. At the $143 price quoted by Jeb Dunnuck, this 2,000 bottle production red would be priced right around expectation. Our price, however, is sixty bucks less!

While the rare wines of Hermitage tend to be the star of any show, we are even more excited by today's bottling of Jacouton Crozes-Hermitage. Also crafted entirely from Syrah vines owned by Jean-François, this massively appealing red from the surrounding appellation offers Northern Rhône character and beauty for 1/3rd the price.

Read on for the details on both, then click the Big Green Button to secure a few bottles for enjoyment through these remaining winter months and, especially for the Hermitage, for many winters to come!

2022 Jean-François Jacouton Crozes-Hermitage
Northern Rhône Valley, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
Jean-François launched his eponymous winery in 2010 after inheriting a few small parcels from his grandfather. He bottles Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, and the two reds we offer today from the base and atop the famed hill of Hermitage.
Crafted from 100% Syrah grown sustainably on alluvial/pebbled soil, his 2022 Crozes-Hermitage is lovely and pure, presenting a forward concentration of fruit and a pleasing feel of elegance. Bright in character, it boasts flavors of dark red fruits, red flowers, smoke, coffee, anise, dusty earth and black rocks.
Juicy, grippy and complex, this approachable red finishes with lively acidity and medium-plus tannins. Jeb gives it this big 93-point review, and we think he is spot-on. When it comes to Northern Rhône red values, this one is scorching!
“Beautiful peppery herbs, violets, game, and a core of darker fruits define the 2022 Crozes-Hermitage, a medium-bodied, concentrated, balanced Crozes that offers pleasure today yet will be even better in 2-4 years. It's going to see its 15th birthday in fine form. Drink 2025-2037.”
2022 Jean-François Jacouton Hermitage
Northern Rhône Valley, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
Production of this wine is so tiny that Jean-François doesn't even feature it on his own website!

Taking the youthful juiciness of his Crozes-Hermitage and adding deeper levels of mouthfeel, depth and savory complexity, his 2022 Hermitage is quite concentrated in the glass and on the palate.

With a sophisticated viscosity, this 100% Syrah from the famed "Hill of the Hermit" is savory and soulful. The fruits here are darker and more mysterious. With blackberry, plum and blueberry compote overtones and intriguing black olive, smoke, licorice and duck fat nuances, it is expansive, hefty and seductive. We suspect that with another few years in the cellar, this will rise to a full 95 points.

“Darker berry fruits, spicy herbs, graphite, crushed stone, and gamey, peppery nuances all shine in the 2022 Hermitage from Jacouton, a structured, medium to full-bodied Hermitage. It has a focused, elegant mouthfeel, lots of tannins, and terrific balance. Made from 100% Syrah, this beauty will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and should age beautifully for 15-20 years. Drink 2029-2044.”
