"Voluptuous" 93-Point Chianti Classico for $21.99

"Voluptuous" 93-Point Chianti Classico for $21.99

Agronomist Giovanni Battista d'Orsi and his wife Emilia own and operate a small wine farm in the prestigious Chianti Classico village of Panzano, just south of Florence. There, they organically farm ten hectares of grapes and two acres of olive trees, doing everything by hand with great care and passion.

We’ve loved many vintages of their traditionally styled Chianti, and the 2020 bottling we have for you today - with its complex red fruits, old school earth, minerality, and serious structure - is next level. It is a beautiful bottle of wine, at a wildly good price.

Scroll down for the tasting notes, and for crazy blowout pricing on a delicious white from the Morini family, then hammer down fast on the Big Yellow Button before our supply of these brilliant wines gets snapped up!

==========

2020 Casaloste Chianti Classico
Tuscany, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Giovanni is a farmer first, and has been serious about organic farming and committed to sustainability since the early 1990s, long before it was fashionable. Small by Chianti standards, Giovanni makes only 2500 cases of his Chianti Classico in a typical year, with production of this vintage a bit smaller than usual.
Pouring a classic ruby-garnet color, the 2020 bottling is their current release, and it is showing beautifully. As a comparison, most Chianti producers have already released their 2022 vintage!
This impressive red has a structure one might expect to find in a Riserva, or even a Brunello. Boasting nuanced flavors of cassis, dried red berries, aged leather, red flowers, roasted herbs and dried leaves along with hints of cedar, vanilla, and spice, the wine is gorgeous, and really starts to show its stuff after a few hours in the decanter. Energized and deep, it begs for Cacciucco, Bistecca alla Fiorentina or even spaghetti and meatballs. A wine this good deserves a delicious meal. We are a strong 92 Points. Awarding the highest score in his 15 years of reviewing this wine, Galloni writes...
“The 2020 Chianti Classico is a dark, voluptuous red. Black cherry, plum, licorice and spice are all amplified in this potent, racy wine. Readers will find a super-classic Panzano Chianti Classico built on texture and volume. Expressive floral and spice notes resonate on the rich, potent finish. A dollop of 10% Merlot works well in exalting richness. This is beautifully done. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2032."
2022 Ilatium Morini "Le Calle" Soave
Veneto, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The region of Soave, in the hills northeast of Verona, is adored by wine drinkers for its deliciously dry, richly mineral whites. We love bringing you these wines, and, thanks to a warehouse clearing opportunity, we are able to bring you this viscous, nervy, layered bottling from the Morini family at a CRAZY blowout price.

The Morini family makes this Soave from 35-year-old Garganega vines growing in the rocky-clay soils of their “Le Calle” vineyard. Raised in tank, this yummy white offers compelling flavors of citrus, yellow apple and stone fruit, with subtle peppery herbs and a plump mouthfeel that is energized by brisk acidity and a long, tense finish.

While this dense wine is drinking wonderfully now, great Soave can age, and this is a great Soave! If you wanted to keep a few bottles for another 5 to 10 years, you might be surprised at the result. We’re a solid 91 Points. Here is the 95-Point Wine Enthusiast review:

“This Soave opens with aromas of honey, peach, and ripe orchard fruits that draw you in like a siren's song. Heady aromatic flowers add to the song, creating a bouquet that's both opulent and elegant. On the palate, the wine is textured and fleshy, with a richness that seems to suggest that it might fall down due to its size but right at the edge, the acidity pulls the tension and keeps the wine taut and lively, yet still opulent and layered. The finish is mineral driven and mouthwatering, leaving you craving another sip. This Soave has the potential to age beautifully, its flavors evolving and deepening over time. This Soave is a wine to savor and enjoy with abandon. Drink now–2040.”
          - 95 Points, Wine Enthusiast (10/1/2024)

Wine Enthusiast quotes $20. While there are not any online listings for this vintage, we saw a median for the previous vintage of just over $21. Our price makes this serious white a total slam dunk!
