When Jim Anderson visited us earlier this year, he let us in on a secret. Patricia Green Wine Cellars has produced a tiny quantity of whiskey!
The Patty Green "Multifarious" and "Francin Barley" whiskeys are two of the most fantastic and deliciously distinctive spirits we’ve ever tasted. And, we are not the only ones who think so. Of the Multifarious, American Mash & Grain concludes an incredible story about the project by calling it...

With production of 135 and 103 cases, Jim and his team intended on selling the entire production direct from the winery. We, however, managed to pry loose a few cases. Today, we offer them to you.
These gorgeous whiskeys are expected to arrive at Vin Chicago within the next two weeks and are being offered now at special pre-arrival pricing. As an extra bonus, we've also talked Jim into sending us a few bottles of his "Purple Karma Pinnacle" whiskey, of which only 37 cases were crafted.

Patty Green "Multifarious" Whiskey

Pouring a beautiful golden orange, this shimmering viscous nectar jumps from the glass, offering warm citrus, burnt sugar, and bright sweet spice aromas. There's a silky, Blanton's-like mouthfeel here, a hallmark of the heirloom grains. Akin to a very expensive wheat-heavy Bourbon sans the new American oak, the range of citrus and spice flavors along with the seductive texture makes it something VERY special.

Along with the other bottlings we bring you today, the 49% ABV Multifarious was distilled and blended by Oregon native Lynsee Sardel. It is 80% grain whiskey from heirloom grain purchased from Oregon's Tiller Malt and 20% brandy that Lynsee painstakingly crafted from 2020 vintage Patricia Green Pinot Noir. As explained in the American Mash & Grain article, the attention and love that Lynsee lavished is un-freaking-believable.
Only 135 cases were made of this one-off whiskey. We are ecstatic to be the only retailer in Chicago, and one of only a few in the nation, to get our hands on it. Patty Green "Francin Barley" Whiskey

Using an heirloom Czech strain of barley that was grown in the Columbia Gorge, the "Francin Barley" pours an auburn rust color, exuding gutsy and complex flavors that are quite rye-like. When we looked at Jim Anderson's tasting notes, we found them to sum things up better than ours!
“This is as if the best and most delicious snickerdoodle cookie had been magically transformed into whiskey. Richness, texture, sweetness and, of course, cinnamon all swirl together to give this whiskey incredibly appealing flavors, immense texture and a finish that lingers well over the top of the 102 proof ABV. This is a rare, beautiful whiskey that will cross the boundaries of any number of people who enjoy whiskey, Scotch, Bourbon or any other designation of distilled grain.”

With only 103 cases bottled, this 51% ABV whiskey is even more rare than the Multifarious. Suggesting it be enjoyed on its own rather than mixed or with food, Jim - who is not prone to boasting about his wines - concludes:
“This is an incredibly delicious and highly-textured whiskey. We would put this up against, well, basically any whiskey out there. Truly. As with all the whiskeys we have bottled to date, this is one that is meant to be enjoyed on its own so as to savor the deep and distinct flavors and enjoy the rich, silky mouthfeel that gracefully washes over the 102 proof.”

Patty Green "Purple Karma Pinnacle" Whiskey

With only 37 cases produced, this third bottling is so rare that we've not yet had a chance to taste it. We're hoping that one of you will share a few drops with us!
“This is a statement bottling. We are quite positive that this is the only whiskey on earth made from the Purple Karma strain of barley. This is a one of one, a unicorn, an item that still manages to be as delicious as it is rare.”

As we did with the Francin Barley, we defer to the graceful words of Jim's tasting notes...
“This is 80% Purple Karma grain distillate mixed with 20% of the Pinot Noir Brandy…Purple Karma barley is an ancient Himalayan landrace variety (and it is literally purple). This is an excellent example of attempting to show something hyper-local as Purple Karma Barley is currently only grown in Oregon and does not see much in the way of commercial use of any kind. It is renowned for being dense in texture and hearty in flavor…A small portion of the distillation was carved out of the center of the hearts cut, separated and barreled down into 2 partially full repurposed barrels…It went into barrel at 112 proof and many trials of watering it to lower levels led us to the conclusion that the most delicious version of this rare and beautiful whiskey was at full cask strength…The texture is liquid silk and the flavors are carried on it in a way that allow for fruit, tobacco, spice, woodsy notes and some barrel sweetness to coat the palate.”
