Península de Setúbal, Portugal
~~~~~~~~~~~
Juicy and personality-packed, the 2022 José Maria da Fonseca "Anticiclone" was crafted from vineyards growing just south of Lisbon. Featuring gritty Portuguese character, this purple/ruby colored wine jumps from the glass with juicy black raspberry, blueberry, red flowers, cocoa, smoke and red earth.
There's a wonderfully dark and chewy character in quality Portuguese reds that makes them unique. This wine, despite its low price, has that something special. Awarding it the #66 spot on their 2024 "Top 100" list, Wine Spectator writes...
“Balanced and medium-bodied, this fresh red frames flavors of chopped black cherry, blackberry paste, espresso, tobacco, anise and graphite with light, fine tannins. Castelão and Aragoñez. Drink now through 2029.”
- 90 Points, Wine Spectator (7/31/2024)
It is very interesting to note that when Wine Spectator picked this for the Top 100 list, they quoted a price of $30. If they thought it was good enough for the list at that price, they'd really be flipping out if they knew how much it really sells for!
2023 Darting “Dürkheimer Nonnengarten”
Riesling Kabinett
Pfalz, Germany (1.0 liter)
~~~~~~~~~~~
We’ve loved the Darting family's wines, and today's delicious Kabinett from their Dürkheimer Nonnengarten vineyard is one of our favorites.
Packing delicious German Riesling flavors, a touch of sweetness and beautiful minerality, it clocks in at a just-right 10.5% ABV. Classic white citrus, key lime, green apple, spring flower and soft talc flavors lead to a grippy, rocky, tangy, mineral-filled finish.
Earning 91 points from our team, this big 1.0 liter bottle sells online for around $24. Thanks to a special buy, we are able to bring it to you for 34% less, a price that beats every online listing for both the 2023 and 2022 vintages!
