What We Think
Vin Chicago: 90+ Points
(8/2025) We had heard about the wines from Francisco Bugallo and Nuria Añó Gargiulo of El Montañista and were utterly delighted when we were finally able to try them! This blend of Torrentés Sanjuanino, Torrontés Mendocino, Malvasia and Maticha comes from 80+ year old vines planted at an altitude of nearly 5000 feet! The vineyards are old, dry, and very isolated--in other words, pristine. The grapes for this blend are hand-harvested and destemmed, then left to ferment on the skins for 12 to 14 days. After that, the no pressing occurs and the wine is made only from free-run juice, left to age in concrete tanks under a thin veil of flor for 7 months. Think orange-wine style white blend with loads of orchard fruits, orange blossoms, almond, and white flowers!
