(2/2025) The leading producer of Moldovan wine, Purcari, crafts the 'Freedom Blend' to celebrate independence across Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine by combining three red grape varieties famous from each. They first released the blend after the annexing of Crimea in 2014, and it has remained relevant to date, with proceeds of the bottling supporting refugees. Approximately 65% Saperavi, 20% Rara Neagra, and 15% Bastardo are aged in French oak barrique for 6-12 months and combine to deliver a rich, round, resolved red blend with soft, ripe cherries, blueberry cobbler, mocha, tobacco, kirsch and a kiss of vanilla, toast, and pepper.
