(6/2024) This light-hued, still Catalan red blend from Pepe Raventos, famous for his sparkling wines, is worlds apart from Priorat! An even blend of the native Sumoll variety and Garnatxa from high-altitude, organically-farmed vineyards is aged without oak barrels and only minimal sulfur additions. Initially a bouquet of timid but pretty, Pinot Noir-like aromatics of crushed raspberry, dried strawberry, hibiscus and red clay give way to a lithe but somewhat grainy close - think Sancerre Rouge. With more aeration, deeper vertical tannin appears and a more sanguine profile appears. A dry, lip-smacking, contemplative wine that longs for a slight chill and fatty foods. Natty wine done RIGHT!
