What We Think
Vin Chicago: 91 Points
(4/2025) Domaine Pégau bottles one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's most outstanding red wines, and this traditional, artisan producer also makes one of the finest values in the entire Southern Rhône Valley. With his 'Plan Pégau' red, vigneron Laurence Féraud gives us a serious and seriously inexpensive non-vintage blend from estate-grown, hand-harvested, 40+-year-old vines. The latest batch blends the 2018, 2019, and 2020 vintages of 30% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Merlot, and a 20% mix of old-vine Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Danlas, Alicante, and Cabernet Sauvignon! This wine screams old-school with spicy red fruits, hints of barnyard and farmland, red earth, smoky herbs, and a fresh, soft palate. Great with Pita Inn lamb patties, this baby Châteauneuf is fun and a silly good bargain!
