Pronounced aromas and flavors of red currant, black cherry and smoked plum are layered with classic notes of gravel, graphite, and cedar. "Herbs, olives, currants, fine spices and touches of bergamot and tobacco on the nose. On the palate it’s juicy and fine-veined, with a medium body, very fine tannins and a super-long, filigreed finish. 81% cabernet sauvignon and 19% merlot. Such balance. Great now, but this will benefit from further aging. For those who love classic left-bank finesse and precision, this is the vintage to buy. Drink or hold."

“A bottle of 2016 Giscours was dispatched from the château after a bottle misfired at the Southwold tasting. This example correlates to initial showings. Vivid blackberry and blueberry fruit soar on the nose after an hour's decanting, beautifully defined with a patina of new oak discreetly interwoven. The palate oozes panache, very well defined with lace-like tannins, gentle grip and just a touch of graininess towards the finish such that it does not come across 'over-polished.' Afford it another couple of years in bottle if you can. Drinking Window: 2028 - 2055."

Not ready yet, but already confident in what it is going to become. What to do while you're waiting for your 2016 Giscours to hit peak maturity? How about enjoy a few bottles of this perfectly-priced second wine from Château d'Issan!

As with Giscours, d'Issan earned Third Growth status in the famed Bordeaux classification of 1855. Using some of the younger vines on the estate, they've been making this Blason d'Issan bottling since 1995.

Offering a more forward fruit profile and softer tannins than the regular Château d'Issan, and selling for around half the price, this medium-bodied red is a fantastic choice for drinking now and the coming few years...

“Dried oranges and plums with bark, mushroom and forest floor aromas that follow through to medium to full body with a dense finish and excellent energy. Spices such as nutmeg and sandalwood. Some chocolate, too. 57% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 3% petit verdot. Best after 2025."
