2020 Dr. Pauly Bergweiler
Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~
Named after the sundial built in 1842 by vintner Jodocus Prüm of Wehlen, Wehlener Sonnenuhr is one of the Mosel’s most famous vineyard sites. Perfectly situated across the river from the town of Whelen with a south-southwest exposure, the vines receive abundant sunshine as they dig into the vineyard’s grey/blue Devonian slate soils, while the very steep 65 to 70% slope gradient puts stress on the vine that yields flavor-packed fruit of great intensity.
We absolutely lost our minds over this 2020 bottling from Dr. Pauly Bergweiler. A cascade of complex aromas and flavors explode from the glass, including white peach, juicy green apple, poached pear, tangerine and lemon ice complemented by wet slate, a hint of petrol, white flowers and fresh honey. This is CLASSIC German estate Riesling, and it is simply DELICIOUS.
The palate is soft, seductive, and rich with an off-dry level of sweetness that is beautifully balanced by the wine’s racy acidity. The finish is crisp, refreshing, and deliciously long. Just wow!
Checking in at a modest 9.5% ABV, the food pairings are vast. Pad thai with a squeeze of fresh lime would be sublime. Crispy fish tacos? Sushi? Bring it on! You may also want to stash away a bottle or two for Thanksgiving. In fact, given the long life of this beauty, you could stash away a supply for Thanksgiving 2036 or beyond as well!
We ran a search for all vintages from any producer of Riesling Spätlese from the storied Wehlener Sonnenuhr site. It came back with 615 listings with a median of $55 and a low of $25. Only four listings were spotted for the exact wine we bring you today, with a median of $31. Our price is unreal, and the small supply will go fast. This wine is a stunner.
A “Ripe, Opulent, Incredibly Sexy”
 Napa Cab from Lewelling!
2021 Lewelling "Wight Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
Going back nearly 160 years to when John Lewelling established vineyards in the western foothills of St. Helena, the history of Lewelling Vineyards is nearly as mind-blowing as their wines. Now owned and operated by John's great-great-grandsons and great-great-great-granddaughter, they are at the top of their game.

Aged for 21 months in 90% new French oak, this pure 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from their flagship Wight Vineyard is jaw-dropping. Check out Jeb Dunnuck's poetic 97-Point review…

“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight Vineyard ratchets up the intensity and is a blockbuster styled effort in the vintage. Blackberries, plums, roasted herbs, chocolate, and flowery incense notes all define the aromatics, and it's full-bodied, with a plush, seamless mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It benefits from air and should be given just 2-3 years of bottle age. This ripe, opulent, incredibly sexy 2021 will evolve for 2 decades if well stored. Maturity 2023 - 2043."
          - 97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (12/26/2023)

A mere 620 cases were produced. This is a wine with the pedigree and quality of many that sell for two to three times its price. Grab a few bottles for both near term enjoyment and long term cellaring.
